What type of floor tiles should I use?
Newbie silly question, what type of floor tiles should I use for my HDB Flat?
Marble? Granite? Homogenous? Ceramic? Parquet? Wood Floor Laminate?
What are the pros and cons for each type?
Anybody got experience to share on this topic?
Thank you in advance.

Re: What type of floor tiles should I use?
Hi,
I am architect in practice recently based in UAE for mega residential development.
I have 6 years of experience working on laminate flooring and below are my humble opinions.
Pros:
1)Resist staining, wear,fading.
2)Dent resistant
3)Water resistant
4)Less expensive than natural wood/stone flooring
5)Low maintenance i.e no need to provide waxing like natural wood flooring
6)Provide unique look and appeals
Cons:
1)Accumulate dust/sand will provide scratches;keep it clean
2)Provide felt pads under furniture to prevent any scratch
3)Sitting moisture/water will cause warp/swell;keep it relatively dry
4)Potential health effects. It is made of melamine resin which emits volatile organic compound.
Every floor finish has its own advantages and disadvantages, select the one you feel comfortable.
Thank you and regards,
Mong

3)Water resistant
Laminate flooring is water resistant? So laminate flooring can be used outdoor since it is water resistant.
2)Provide felt pads under furniture to prevent any scratch
It is not neccessary unless the feet of the furniture is made sharp metal. The flooring is strong abrasion resistant.

Re: What type of floor tiles should I use?
As far as concerned,I think some stone tiles such as polished granite and marble are inherently very slippery when wet. Stone tiles with a riven (split) surface such as slate or with a sawn and then sandblasted or honed surface will be more slip resistant.
Ceramic tile for use in wet areas can be made more slip resistant either by using very small tiles so that the grout lines acts as grooves or by imprinting a contour pattern onto the face of the tile.
limestone tiles are not suitable for very heavy traffic floor areas. On the other hand, ceramic tiles typically have a glazed upper surface and when that become scratched or pitted the floor looks worn, whereas the same amount of wear on natural stone tiles won't show or will be less noticeable.
But if you have any confusion you can consult best contractor or search online too.
