Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum here but let me start the ball rolling by sharing some things I know when it comes to choosing lighting for your home.
First of all, most of us tend to walk into a lighting shop and look at the shapes & shades then choose base on the outlook of the light fixtures to blend into our renovation design. Of cause this is important as its for our HOME! :)
So next is something most of us do not consider as most of us mainly do not know what else to look out for is the lamps & gear in our fixtures. But do you know that the lamps and gear are the 60-80% of the price we are paying to the lighting shops? And this is the most important stuff because these are the 2 items that produce what it call LIGHT to brighten up our rooms. The outer fixtures are only providing us a shape/shade to blend into our surround with some glare & light throw control features.
Just like car, lighting also the body, the engine and the wheel. The outer fixtures are the body which we can modify the original to whatever to our personal liking (what i mean is that we can choose from various choice). The gear or ballast is the engine which will be driving the wheels for us therefore this is where the energy saving, efficiency, safety etc come from. Lastly is the wheels which will bring our daily needed lights to our eyes providing us a comfortable & useful light source for our life style.
So is the engine more important or the body? I believe most of choose a car base on the reliability of the car's engine then the outlook of it. So why should we do differently for our sweet home's lighting which we will spent 30% of our times in? Also, we the amount we paid for lighting in so much for lamps and gear, we have all the right to demand for better engine and wheels right?
Most of us let the lighting shop's sales staff guide us through using all their different knowledge which don't where they pick-up from, so we should start to know more about the things which we are going to pay for and request for the best engine for better fuel economy or i should say energy saving.
Hope that this is helpful... :)
Just to share so please don't bombard me.
